Job Description:
Western Washington Site Services is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our seasonal hazardous weather response team. This critical role involves operating heavy machinery to perform snow and ice control on commercial properties during adverse winter weather conditions.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for clearing snow, managing ice buildup, and ensuring safe access for clients using a range of equipment including skid steer loaders, wheeled loaders, graders, and backhoes. Work is typically performed during snow and ice events, requiring availability during nights, weekends, holidays, and early morning hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate heavy equipment in snowy, icy, low-visibility, and fast-changing weather conditions
- Clear snow from parking lots, access roads, sidewalks, and loading areas
- Load and distribute deicing materials as directed (in coordination with truck operators)
- Follow assigned routes, site plans, and instructions with precision
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections on all equipment
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as fueling and checking fluid levels
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members
- Maintain awareness of surroundings to protect property and ensure safety
- Adapt to changing site needs and conditions in real time

Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in commercial, construction, or snow removal settings
- Proven ability to safely operate equipment in hazardous weather (snow, ice, low visibility)
- Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus but not required
- Ability to work flexible, on-call hours, often on short notice
- Reliable transportation to job sites
- Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods in harsh winter conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks as needed
- Strong understanding of equipment limits, terrain awareness, and safe operating practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in winter snow removal operations
- Familiarity with salting and deicing procedures
- CDL Class A or B license
- Mechanical aptitude for minor field repairs and equipment troubleshooting
